Atlanta based video production company FUGO Studios has a long history with Delta Air Lines. It has been our genuine privilege to produce their on-board safety videos multiple times. So when the regional brand behemoth returned for a new safety video, we were ready.
In late August 2017, Delta Air Lines contacted FUGO Studios with the new challenge: Produce the 2018 Delta on-board safety video and integrate the public reveal of their new fleet-wide flight attendant uniforms. The video represent a major portion of Delta’s customer facing marketing and branding, and is shown on every Delta flight around the world with an annual viewership of 180,000,000 people. The uniform reveal component added a new layer of complexity and design that we were eager to tackle.
FUGO Studios’ creative team went to work, seizing the opportunity the brief presented to create an one-of-a-kind safety video. Arrays of historically accurate, period Delta uniforms were collected for use in the video. For the first time ever, the safety video would be filmed outside of an actual plane or mock cabin. The FUGO team envisioned a revolving set featuring fuselage cut-away. As the set turned, new flight attendants in uniform would appear, ultimately revealing the 2018 uniform set.
After months of collaborative work, the set was up and turning, flight attendants were dressed in a collage of Delta uniforms stretching back to the 1940’s, and the team went to work. Over the course of three days on a massive soundstage, the new Delta Safety video was brought to life. As always, it was an honor to produce and a pleasure to see in action.

Michael Phelps & Huggies
So diapers don’t immediately spring to mind when you think 28-time Olympic-medal-winning superhuman juggernaut Michael Phelps. But ask the twice-over recent father his thoughts on swim diapers and he’ll have some clear opinions. Atlanta based video production company FUGO Studios got a chance to do just that in a whirlwind, weeklong Arizona production. So westward the wagons – FUGO is going to Rancho Phelps.
Our mission was to produce content for the Huggies “Little Swimmers” diaper campaign featuring the Phelps family. The idea being that “Coach” Boomer Phelps (4yrs old) is prepping his younger brother, Beckett (6 months old) for the pool. The pieces are designed to be light and informative, giving parents valuable insight into water play and pool safety.
Over the course of the production, the FUGO team filmed content for several social and television pieces along with photography and merchandising assets. The production ranged in and out of the pool, around the yard, filming in cars, and inside an active Walmart – all with 15 2 year olds and a newborn in tow. In the end, it was an absolute pleasure to film with the Phelps family. We got to share some beautiful moments with them, and we are certainly proud of the final product.
Cesar & Jared’s Soccer Party
When Atlanta based video production company FUGO Studios was tasked with creating a set of Spanish language soccer themed spots for the Home Depot, we were intrigued. When we learned that they would feature legendary Mexican National Team and FIFA World Cup team players Jared Borgetti (Zoro), Luis Roberto Alves (Zague), and Luis Hernandez (Matador), we were excited. When we learned that they would total 10 spots and be filmed in the heart of Mexico City, with one week of pre-production and three days to shoot, we got to work.
The series features the soccer player prepping for an epic soccer party, visiting The Home Depot to deck out their back yard. With Jared Borgetti leading the charge, the boys fly through a Mexico City Home Depot and whip together some last-second magic. On the production end, the FUGO boys whipped up their own magic, running a small but highly efficient production and once more demonstrating the companies’ ability to deliver on message, on time, and on scope.
In the end, it was a pleasure to work with all involved. Our futbol-friend all-stars did an amazing job throughout and the final product definitely lands FUGO Studios a GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
Coke Bracket Refresh
There are few brands as iconic as Coca-Cola. The homegrown giant is responsible for some of the most memorable advertising in history and is the definition of a global brand. So when Atlanta based video production company FUGO Studios was approached to produce a series of videos for Coca-Cola, we were excited. When we heard that the videos were part of a March-Madness campaign and would feature NBA legend David Robinson, we were thrilled.
The shoot would take place across a whirlwind two days of production and include major production challenges: tight schedules and turnaround, meticulous product styling, and heavy production design. In the end the shoot was a success, and for Atlanta based FUGO Studios, an honor to produce.
Verizon Hum
Atlanta based video production company FUGO Studios has been fortunate to work with truly great regional and national brands in our past. It is both an honor and challenge to steward these clients, and we always pay careful attention to the needs of their well-honed brand image. Verizon was no exception.
From the first, we knew that exacting care would be needed to ensure that every image and graphic stayed on message and within guideline. The FUGO Studios team produced a series of promotional videos highlighting the Verizon Hum, each one carefully tailored to Verizon’s needs.
We are extremely proud to have brand giants trust us with their image: It is a relationship born from trust, attention to detail and expertise. For the team at FUGO Studios, it’s why we work.
Fire
When Swedish recording artist Ulrika chose to work with Atlanta based video production company FUGO Studios on her latest music video for the track “Fire”, we were honored. With her distinct sound, and stunning space visuals, the video would be an exciting challenge for FUGO producers.
The piece is a story of love told through a series of metaphors and dance, and the video’s dynamic visuals make for a vibrant viewing experience. With Ulrika’s vision in hand, we went to work. After a day’s worth of rotating sets, dancing, and flashing lights, combined with our post-production magic, we are ready to showcase her latest work.
Live A Little
When legendary pizza purveyors, Mellow Mushroom reached out to Atlanta based production company FUGO Studios about producing a positively pizza-licious project of far-out proportions, we were totally stoked. Here was a chance to show off some rad productions skills for one of the grooviest brands around.
The material, much like a Mello crust, was fresh and deliciously funny. The production would be based entirely in studio and feature a myriad of funky props and sets, including (but not limited to) a grumpy cat, a beer fountain, mod furnishings, a pizza drone, and of course a live unicorn. Mellow Mushroom brought out their mobile bake bus and as the ovens heated up, so did the action inside. The shoot was a test of FUGO’s studio and art direction chops, and in the end, we’re really proud to have a slice of such a unique project.
Travel Like A King
When Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios was contacted to produce a campaign of social media ads for L.A. Kings – we leaped at the opportunity. As if the chance to work with the noted west-coast hockey team wasn’t enough, being brought in from the southeast to film in Los Angeles – the established nerve center of production in America – was a huge honor. Of all the companies out there, we were chosen:
Time to go to work.
A whirlwind three days of production in the Staples center and around LA would be required to produce the campaign. FUGO Studios worked hand-in-paw with Bailey, the L.A. Kings Mascot to feature the oversized lion in the campaign. We also got the chance to work with several star players from the L.A. Kings hockey team, as well as celebrity chef duo Jon and Vinny. We took great pride in the shoot; no one was “lion-around” on this one. View one of the three videos created for the campaign!
Good Day Atlanta
Atlanta is a city on the rise. It is home and headquarters to FUGO Studios and we’re proud to live and work in such a dynamic, up-and-coming city. So when the most viewed morning news program in the city, Good Day Atlanta, contacted us to produce their promotional “hero” shots, we jumped at the chance. Here was an opportunity to film against the backdrop of our great city and produce some stunning visuals. Plus, the content filmed is to be used for all of Good Day Atlanta’s promotional branding, including ID’s and bumpers.
The process would see us atop a rooftop in the midst of downtown Atlanta at magic hour. The vista was carefully chosen for its view and FUGO producers were sensitive in choosing a location that represented a true representation of Atlanta. A jib arm allowed for sweeping approaches on the news team as the sun glinted and danced across the towering high-rises behind. Between the professionalism of the FOX 5 team and the rich scenery of the city, the shoot was truly one to remember. You can catch it on FOX 5 during commercial breaks on regular programming and live broadcast events.
A Bag’s Life
It’s hard out there for a bag, unless of course you stay with Staybridge.
When Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios was approached with an exciting concept for a series of ads for Staybridge Suites, we were thrilled to be working alongside a local agency on creative material. The scripts featured a series of bags describing all the reasons they love Staybridge suites. The challenges we’re numerous and mainly centered around the task of clearly establishing the source of narration in each ad as the bag itself. FUGO tackled the series with gusto.
The production would take the team across Atlanta, shooting within three Staybridge Suites locations. An army of bags were “auditioned” before the final stars would be settled on, and in the end an arsenal of bags, crew, and filming equipment would be wheeled in and out of rooms, down halls, up stairs, across pools and through the various Staybridge lobby’s over a three day shooting schedule. The final product is a series of Staybridge ads that meet the challenges of the script head on.
A Little NASCAR
There is an old Hollywood adage that suggests, “Never work with children or animals.” Well, no animals on this one, but we’ve definitely got the ‘children’ thing covered.
When the team at Atlanta based video production company FUGO Studios was approached by producers from NBC Universal’s sports division, we we’re obviously curious. By the time the first meeting had finished, curiosity had been replaced by excitement. The production concept was simple enough: Have celebrity Rutledge Wood interview groups of children about NASCAR and get honest, unscripted thoughts on the motor sport. The reality of actually putting the concept together however, was far from simple.
Over 100 kids were tested for on-screen presence and general knowledge of NASCAR to put together 5 groups of 5. Each of these groups would then be filmed in a round-table discussion with Rutledge. The conversations would all take place on a set dressed to look like a NASCAR classroom. FUGO Studios producers located an actual Atlanta area school and moved into a kindergarten room, covering the space with all manner of race-themed goodies. By the time the last hand-colored stock car racing flag was hung, the entire room took on the feel of NASCAR clubhouse, ready for Rutledge Wood to hold court.
As the cameras rolled, the FUGO Studios team was treated to a wild range of impromptu moments from the kids. In the end, the production was a success, and it turns out that working with children isn’t all that bad.
Mercedes Benz Fleet Solutions
When Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios was contacted about a project for Mercedes-Benz, the stakes were raised. The chance to do business with the legendary Mercedes-Benz brand made the project a truly exciting opportunity.
The video would need to showcase the highest caliber production quality. Everything would need to be on-brand and up to Mercedes standards. Several interviews with high-level Mercedes-Benz USA management were filmed alongside a series of fleet vehicle beauty shots. The final product was a concise explanatory video catered directly to Mercedes-Benz’s staff. The success of the video ensures the beginnings of a relationship with Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios and Mercedes-Benz.
The Home Depot DIY
Jared Borgetti may not be a household name to most Americans, but ask legions of loyal Mexican soccer fans who he is and they’ll respond in unison: “El Zorro del Desierto”, the Desert Fox. With 46 goals, he is the second all-time leading goal scorer for Mexico’s National Football team, and with a career 205 goals to his name while at Santos Laguna Football Club, he is a legend in the sport.
So when Atlanta Production Company FUGO Studios was approached to work on an exciting Home Depot video series featuring the Mexican Footballer, the team knew it was going to be a one-of-a-kind project.
The idea was simple enough: produce three segments where Jared Borgetti works alongside a Home Depot associate to demonstrate various DIY projects. The videos would target the Spanish speaking market and be produced entirely in Spanish. Additionally, the client had a desire to give the videos a certain playful quality.
Each segment would feature a combination of over-head tabletop camera work paired alongside cinematic b-roll. The team suspended the camera system and controlled the action remotely while FUGO producers put their foreign language thinking caps on.
In the end, the two-day production went off without a hitch. Jared and the Home Depot producers and associates were a pleasure to work with, and the final product in a series of videos FUGO Studios can be proud of even a country away.
Jim Ellis Audi of Atlanta
Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios was recently approached by Jim Ellis Audi of Atlanta in order to produce a new video. The production would be an exercise in exploring the high-octane world of Audi Automotive while bringing a creatively cinematic flare to local dealership commercials.
The FUGO Studios team attacked this challenge with the usual tenacity they bring to bear on every video production. After a visit to the dealership to scout the facility, the production professionals arrived in the pre-dawn hours, quickly moving into place and assembling a battery of equipment. As the sun began to peek over horizon, the production company was in the air, shooting a series of beautiful aerial establishing shots of the Jim Ellis Audi complex. Inside, cars were carefully situated and the filming began. The FUGO team shot a series of vignettes inside and along a fleet of Audi’s top of the line vehicles.
The end result is a local dealership commercial that is miles above the norm. The lesson here: just because it’s local doesn’t mean the quality has to suffer; a mantra that repeatedly makes FUGO Studios the go-to Atlanta video production company.
Hilton “Bring It” Ad Campaign
Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios was contacted to produce a series of ads for the Hilton family of suites. The production took place across several Atlanta area Hilton suites and centered on the idea that Hilton suites are large enough for you to “Bring It” … The “it” in question being anything you can think of.
So, we brought it.
The FUGO truck as well as two 15’ cube trucks loaded with props and costume options pulled up to the production, while a set of Arri 4k HMI’s run off a generator truck provided lighting on a grand scale. Every inch of each room was meticulously styled, steamed, smoothed, vacuumed, dressed, analyzed, discussed, fed into client monitors across the hall and then analyzed, discussed, redressed, restyled, re-smoothed, and shot over a three day production period. To say they were long days would be a severe understatement, but in the end the results made the effort well worth it.
Ever Wish Ad Campaign
There isn’t usually much room for comedy in the world of banking; that is unless you consider retirement portfolio strategy as hilarious as we do, or you happen to live in north Florida. Enter Community First Credit Union.
When a Florida Agency contacted Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios, there was a collective gasp in the room. Here was a client unafraid to inject a bit of humor into their commercials. Yes, Atlanta video production varies wildly in types and styles of projects, but it is rare by any standard to be asked to feature a live lion. Not wild enough? Maybe you prefer a scene featuring a tattoo of a face, on a face? How about ear gauges large enough to slip your arms through? Community First’s “Ever Wish” campaign (as in “Ever Wish” there was a better way to bank?) was refreshingly original on paper, but it was up to video production company FUGO Studios to bring it to life.
This simple two-word theme spawned some surprising results, and no small amount of challenges for FUGO Studios. It would take three whirlwind days of production to realize Community First’s vision. FUGO would ultimately pull out all the stops, using everything from visual effects to live action. Raw cuts of pork would be thrown at imaginary lions, while cat wranglers would give FUGO producers the option of using a one-eyed-cat for a particular scene or choosing the standard two-eyed variety.
We went with two eyes, but in the end there was nothing standard about this shoot.
2017 Delta Safety Video
As part of the Delta Air Lines “Midnight Oil” welcome and safety video design, the FUGO Studios team wanted to introduce two new elements: A strong side light from the aircraft windows imitating a sunrise glow and the use of a remote head and jib in order to fly the camera throughout the aircraft, adding never-before-seen movement to a traditionally standard video.
We immediately realized that trying to do either of these on a live plane would be difficult to impossible. Enter the Delta Mock Cabin.
The Delta Mock Cabin is principally used as a training facility for Delta’s on-board personnel, perfectly replicating the interior of their fleet of aircraft. For FUGO Studios it represented an opportunity to film on a controlled set, giving us the ability to perfectly light for our look.
Perhaps the most dynamic aspect of the shoot came through the use of the remote-head camera jib. For the first time, the camera is able to fly over passengers, along aisles and seats, and give the audience a view that is impossible on a live airplane.
In addition to the mock cabin, one of the most challenging aspects of the “Midnight Oil” shoots are the live plane nights. The complexities of working aboard live aircraft range from limited plane availabilities to tight quarters, and even the most seasoned film crews have to rise to the occasion.
For FUGO Studios, the day begins at 9pm. The team rolls up and packs out, moving the gear into Delta’s midfield support bays. From here, everything and everyone rides cross-tarmac to the waiting jetliner. Once aboard, the show begins. Background extras are brought aboard, lighting is set and little by little the safety presentation come to life.
It is an exercise in patience, in working under tight conditions, and in working through the rigors of exhaustion. In all it is the live plane shoots that test us, and ultimately bring the FUGO Studios team together.
Midnight Oil
When one of the most iconic brands in the world comes back for a second round, you know you’ve done something right.
In late August 2016, Delta Air Lines contacted FUGO Studios with a spectacular opportunity: Produce the 2017 Delta on-board welcome and safety videos. The videos represent a major portion of Delta’s customer facing marketing and branding. The videos are shown on every Delta flight around the world with an annual viewership of 180,000,000 people,
Obviously, we were eager to get started.
FUGO Studios was tasked with producing an engaging welcome video featuring Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian as well as a new and unique safety video. The videos needed to stand apart, to highlight Delta’s brand pillars, the reasons that Delta operates at the highest standards. For the team at FUGO Studios this boiled down to one phrase:
Midnight Oil.

EXT. DELTA ROOFTOP – EARLY MORNING
As the sun begins to crest over the famous “Fly Delta Air Lines” sign, Delta CEO, Ed Bastian walks into frame. He is poised and confident. He walks as he delivers his lines to camera.
You are the reason for our long hours and hard work, the reason we’ll never stop improving.
Welcome aboard.
Camera floats up and towards the Delta signage.
Fade to Black.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
4:00 AM. The FUGO Studios team arrives at Delta headquarters in Atlanta. Having rendezvoused with the jib operator, our first order of business is getting up to the roof. The FUGO team begins to unload and move in, each case carried three stories straight up – the mercury outside hovers at 19 degrees.
As the clock begins to count down, the team looks to the sky, every minute watching black turn to deep blues and then quietly into dawn. In two hours Delta CEO Ed Bastian will walk out in front of the camera. The team will have approximately 10 minutes to get the shot. Power cables run three stories back down to the ground floor. The space heater in the tent barely keeps up in the the icy dawn. The Alexa is assembled and mounted on the jib in almost total darkness. With half an hour to go the team runs several test passes before the big show begins.
Despite the early call, the record temperatures and the difficult set-up, the shot went off perfectly.
It’s always an honor to work with clients as prestigious as Delta, but it is especially meaningful that Ed Bastian would give us his morning to stand on a freezing roof with FUGO. In the end Mr. Bastian was extremely professional and prepared, making all the difficulties of getting the shot well worth the effort.
TOC = Technical Operations Center.
Ever wondered where Delta Airlines maintains and repairs their aircraft? Where new components are replaced and in many cases manufactured? How do you paint a plane? What does a stripped down jet engine look like? Exactly how many coffee stations does a 24-hour operation require over a 63-acre facility? Do you back a Boeing into a hangar or go in nose first? What do you call the guy with the red glowing batons? When does the cafeteria stop serving lunch? Which of the 7 stories houses the seat repair bay?
Well, FUGO Studios can tell you.
As part of the Delta Air Lines “Midnight Oil” project, the FUGO Studios team recently filmed across the TOC complex. Moving a production around 63-acres while lighting and shooting in a working aircraft hangar isn’t easy, but it’s definitely interesting.
Georgia Lottery
Four commercials for the GA Lottery in a single day? You need three dudes in animal suits throwing cash around? Laser lights? Yea, we’ve got you covered.
When the GA Lottery came to FUGO Studios with a wild concept involving woodland creatures celebrating their lotto wins, we were obviously interested. When they said they needed four of them, we got excited.
For FUGO Studios, the GA Lottery shoot presented the perfect opportunity to showcase some of our unique talents. FUGO Studios brought in concert lighting and FX technicians as well as electronic cash guns to take raining bills to the next level. The team shot with GA Lottery regulars Tom and Larry for a full day in studio then took the material back to FUGO for some post-production magic.
Check out the video and some behind the scenes photos of the shoot!
American Cancer Society
In May of 2016, FUGO Studios had the privilege of working with American Cancer Society. Our task was to tell the story of ACS through a series of vignettes with cancer survivors, doctors and researchers, and ACS representatives. It was certainly an emotional journey for us, but also an inspirational peek into the amazing work ACS does daily for so many cancer survivors.
FUGO Studios is a collective of passionate production professionals; the most important thing for all of us is story. To be entrusted with the great honor of telling story of ACS is truly special for us.
From a production standpoint, the real lessons we learned in the ACS series all boiled down to giving these stories the treatment they deserve. To inform an audience about the work ACS does to support cancer survivors was an exercise in stewardship, in reflection, and in honoring the sensitivities of these amazing stories.
Take a look at the video and some behind the scenes images from the shoot.
Bold Flavors
The great thing about the world of video production in Atlanta is that you never know who’s going to knock on your door. As the city continues to transform into a production capitol, more and more brands are looking to Atlanta for video services.
In March of 2016, FUGO Studios was contacted by Schlotzsky’s in order to produce a 30 second national advertisement. The task was to feature several new sandwich creations, and reflect their uniquely bold flavors against appropriately matched visuals. The FUGO Studios team quickly went to work breaking down the script, scouting locations, and designing the production.
Over the course of a two-day shoot, FUGO Studios filmed within the King Plow complex, shooting the Schlotzsky’s line of sandwiches and ingredients in multiple locations. The food was meticulously styled and filmed to imbue the final visuals with a handcrafted, artisan quality. By playing on the strong connections between the on-screen textural qualities of the food and the locations, the commercial reflects a general gourmet quality.

Dog Dreams
After a Top 5 finish in the 2014 Doritos Crash the Superbowl competition with “Breakroom Ostrich”, FUGO Studios entered once again with “Dog Dreams”. In this year’s entry, we get a hilarious look inside the mind of a dog and a man as they share a dream of chasing after a Doritos truck.
This production was our first opportunity to shoot with the Phantom Miro, which can shoot 1,500 frames per second in HD, allowing for high quality, extreme slow motion. (To understand just how slow this is; a one second clip in 1,500 frames per second can be slowed down to last over a minute, while staying smooth the entire time).
We also were able to work with a talented dog trainer who provided us with the perfect dog. We shot the slow motion on green screen so we were able to place the super slow motion into a shot that was otherwise at normal speed.
We had a great time making this video, and once again we were very successful in the competition, placing in the top 20 out of nearly 5,000 entries!
Check out the video and some behind the scenes photos of the shoot!
Wish Me Well
Nigerian artist Timi Dakolo called upon FUGO Studios to shoot the music video for his song “Wish Me Well”. The video tells the story of a blacksmith during the Civil War who is haunted by the shame of making bullets and the lives lost as a result. The video deals with whether this shame is too much to live with, or if we always have the chance to turn things around.
A video of this nature requires a lot of pre-production, especially in the form of production design. To give an authentic feel we shot at Historic Westville in Lumpkin, GA, which has numerous buildings from the mid 19th century. We also had a group of Civil War re-enactors that brought with them replica uniforms and working rifles, which allowed us to shoot the fights using practical effects instead of relying on VFX for the gun smoke.
We had a great deal of fun on this project and are very proud of the results. Check out the video above and some stills below!
Spinal Surgery in Atlanta
Atlanta-based Peachtree Neurosurgery utilized FUGO Studios for their new company overview video. With over 30 years of experience, Peachtree Neurosurgery treats neurological disorders and illnesses with a focus on minimally invasive procedures for rapid recovery. The overview video consists of interviews with top physicians, accompanied with b-roll of their fantastic facility in Atlanta. This short company overview gives the viewer a sense of the company and what they stand for, answers commonly asked questions, and shows off their beautiful location in a way that can only be done with HD video. Digital backgrounds, and 3-D graphic text finish the video off with a clean professional look. Have a look at the final product below.
Goliath
Internet sensation MattyB teamed up with FUGO Studios for his latest original track “Goliath”. The video tells the story of a young girl who dreams of making music, but after uploading her musical debut to Youtube; She is met with today’s all to familiar negativity in the comments section. When MattyB reads the comments and sees her belittled at a live show, he decides to help his #1 fan and gives her the opportunity to perform with him on stage. This video, as well as the songs lyrics, is about overcoming adversity to accomplish your dreams. The story of David and Goliath calls upon all of us to rise to the occasion and achieve the impossible. Shot at the beautiful Ambient + Studio in Atlanta, GA, the location provided multiple locations for the story, as well as two amazing performance areas for MattyB. We invite you to take a look at the video and behind the scenes photos below.
Vanilla Gift Card
FUGO Studios and Guillotine Pictures teamed up with local agency Forty Four Digital to create this fun holiday spot for the Vanilla Gift Card.
Shot over three days in Atlanta, the spots required almost a dozen different camera set-ups. Great attention was paid to each set-up so that it would complement the actor’s character. The natural lighting gives this piece a “slice of life” feel, and color coordination between the wardrobe and sets gives the “pop” needed for a national broadcast commercial.
We were fortunate enough to get to shoot in the 2012 Southern Living Idea Home in Senoia, Georgia. This beautiful home was camera-ready, and it’s owners made shooting there a real treat. It was also great to get to work with a great team of talented people all working towards a common goal.
Genetic Testing
FUGO Studios was approached by JScreen to create an overview video for their company that could explain some fairly complex information in a simple and attractive way. JScreen is a genetic testing company focusing on the Jewish denomination.
FUGO Studios created a three minute long animation that utilized colorful typography and fun animated characters to inform the viewer about JScreen in a clear and approachable manner. A simple and cool color palate was utilized to highlight key terms and concepts in the JScreen process. FUGO focused on bringing the relevant information into focus and conveying important statistics in clear visual terms. The entire animation was storyboarded out before animation began. Take a look at the storyboards and final video stills to see how the animation came together from the original idea.
Brains
The Ad Agency Iris Worldwide approached FUGO Studios to produce two commercial spots for (Co)Lab, Atlanta’s annual collaborative leadership summit. The objective for these videos was to engage and inspire innovative minds to collaborate on progressive improvements for Atlanta’s future.
The first spot centers on a fictional cooking show called Food For Thought, with a zombie host tasting for quality brains available in Atlanta. For this spot FUGO shot at the critically acclaimed restaurant Ecco in downtown Atlanta. The excellent zombie make-up was created by Andre Freitas who has worked on high-caliber projects such as The Walking Dead and Zombieland. This zombie host stands out from the clean attractive restaurant, bringing attention to the irony and comedy of the concept.
Unconditional
FUGO Studios set out to put a fresh spin on a beloved fairytale for Jeanette Illidge’s new single “Unconditional”. The sweeping Disney melodies composed by Alan Menken inspired the song, as well as the soulful pop of early Mariah Carey. FUGO Studios was left with the task of creating the visuals that would live up to Jeanette’s incredible songwriting and vocal abilities.
Along with excellent performances by Jeanette and the rest of the cast, the amazing locations for the video became characters in the video as well. The first day of production was located at the Edward C. Peters house, also known as Ivy Hall, in Atlanta. This Queen Anne style home offered the perfect architecture for this style of video.
Day two was spent at the magical Barnsley gardens in Adairsville, Georgia. This historic plantation came complete with a topiary labyrinth and a great ruined home that worked in perfect contrast with Jeanette’s flowing gown. All aspects of the project came together for a wonderful final product. Have a look and find out if this Cinderella gets her happily ever after.
A Head Held High
“A Head Held High” tells the story of Julio, a young stable hand (played by the talented Javier Carrasquillo) who struggles to overcome loss and decide what kind of man he wants to be. Through flashbacks, Julio realizes what is most important.
Although none of us at FUGO can speak Spanish, we believed if we wanted to make this film more authentic it had to be a Spanish-speaking film. Through the help of our fluent actors like Carlos E. Lopez and Karen Valero, we were able to do just that. Dawlish Fonts, mother of the young boys in the film Arturo and Algy Fonts, contributed her language skills as well.
Shooting on location at the beautiful Paradise Arabians presented new challenges. The time constraint forced us to utilize natural light to our fullest advantage and capture all the footage we could during the golden hours. The naturalistic and rustic feel of this film is unlike anything we have ever produced. Impressive visual effects by Bryan Westberry and an elegant title sequence by Brandon Morris also give the film an extra edge.

After Hours
Outliers Music Group has teamed up with FUGO Studios for their latest music video production: Yani Simone’s “After Hours”. A music video wrapped in a short film, the video transports us to a Moulin Rouge-type setting where Madam Simone performs for crowd that has no idea that they are about to become the night’s entertainment.
The video boasts excellent performances by Lucky (Emcee), Sabrina Farmer (Madam Simone), Yani Simone (herself), and great hip-hop verse by rapper Vickz. The video was also brought to life through a colorful cast of extras, which gave the entire production unmistakable charm. Last but not least, the video’s breakdown was filled with an impressive black light sequence led by Choreographer Leshe Anderson.
As with any video we do, we always try and push our capabilities further utilizing the magic of Visual Effects. This video is no exception with over a dozen effects shots of varying levels of complexity. The video was post-production monster: with 3-D, rotoscoping, chroma-key, and digital painting sitting at the forefront of the post-production palette.
Disease
Recording artist Kyron Leslie has worked with FUGO Studios to produce a music video for “Disease”, the latest single from his EP The Weight of the World. This heartfelt duet featuring Kari Epps tells the story of two people trapped in a dysfunctional relationship. The video plays on the “duality” of the songs lyrical content, showing each artist making the same mistakes as the other.
The track also features an appearance by Atlanta rapper, producer and spoken word artist Big Rube. Known for his poetic interludes, Rube has been in the game a while recording with such artists as Outkast, Goodie Mob, and Cee-Lo Green.
The video’s dream sequences contain a stunning light show by Dancin Lights; it provides the type of dreamy club atmosphere needed for the scenes. The video also has a couple of effect shots created by the company’s visual effects department, but primarily focuses on beautiful cinematography and a simple concept.
Grief
With the rapid, ever-changing improvement in digital capture it’s sometimes hard to keep up with the latest technology. Well, thanks to the RED and other digital cinema cameras that rapid pace has slowed a bit, ushering in an “age” that is sure to be the standard for sometime to come.
Even cell phones are capturing HD video now, rivaling the quality of some the consumer camcorders available. Enter the iPhone 4s: the first phone of it’s kind to offer an HD image at 1920×1080.
After FUGO’s Eric Haviv stood in line like the rest of you to get his hands on the new iphone, he came up with an idea: “Let’s shoot a movie on this!” And since we recently stood in a similar line to get our hands on the new RED, he had another idea: “Wait!….Let’s shoot a movie on the iphone and the RED at the SAME TIME!” ….Mind blown.
A unique workflow arose out of this idea. Capturing each shot leapfrog-style proved painstaking (Both films were shot in about 20hrs!). The iPhone was shot with the Owle Bubo & EnCinema SLR Lens adapter to allow the use of manual Nikon lenses, which produces the depth of field for the iPhone. And the post was no cakewalk either because obviously shooting a movie twice also doubles the amount of work involved in post: Double the edit, sound, color correction, and VFX. Nevertheless, it was a success.
Q&A with Director Eric Haviv
We had a few questions on the project for Director Eric Haviv to shed some light on this impressive undertaking.
What is the film about?
The film is about a young girl dealing with the sudden death of her mother.
How did the idea come to film with two cameras?
It just so happened that the highest resolution cinema camera and the highest resolution camera phone were released at almost the same time. I thought it would be a fun experiment to see how a camera phone would hold up against one of the best digital cinema cameras ever made.
Any challenges during production?
There were tons of challenges we faced with the iPhone 4s. The iPhone honestly looked great when there were mass amounts of light present, but in low light conditions is where it really lacked. We were using the same lighting setups for both the RED Epic an iPhone 4s. The iPhone needed much more light, which we didn’t have and the end result definitely suffered because of that.
Were you surprised with the results?
I was a little let down with the iPhones results. Being the first time using the camera, a lot of the problems were unforeseeable. If we had to shoot on the iPhone again the results would definitely be far better. It still is amazing at the quality of video that can be achieved from a phone that costs a few hundred dollars.
What’s the biggest difference between the two cameras?
I can call my mom from the iPhone! The Epic is not this advanced yet. Maybe sometime in the near future they will develop this technology.
Written by D. Ross Kellett, Grief tells the story of a girl who loses her mother in a car crash. And finds an interesting way to help her grieving father. With a cinematic tone and cool VFX, the work contains excellent performances by Cathryne Minotto, Ryan Felton, Jade Nicolette, and Whit Davies. The film was also made possible with the help and generosity of H&A Jewelry.
Where Did You Go?
Westmob Entertainment’s new artist Veekee Mac teamed up with FUGO for her new single “Where Did You Go?” and ended up with this beautiful piece for her debut single.
Shot in black and white with a timeless Film Noir style, it’s FUGO’s first crack at a 1930’s-1940’s period piece. The video showcases the great lighting and costumes of the genre, with great attention paid to locations to give the video the realistic look it needed.
We also developed a nice story with a twist: A woman becomes suspicious of her boyfriends whereabouts and hires a private detective to investigate the matter. When the detective comes back with damaging photos, the woman confronts her man, but finds out the truth isn’t always what it seems.
We hope you enjoy this latest video from FUGO Studios!
Freedom
Acclaimed Syrian composer and pianist Malek Jandali has commissioned our Atlanta video production company FUGO Studios to produce his latest music video for “Freedom (Qashoush Symphony)”. The track is the first single off of his brand new album Emessa (Homs) released in February of 2012. The song and music video has already received attention from international news organizations CNN & NPR, among others.
The album consists of original piano & orchestra music combining Oriental melodies, Arabic modes, and Syrian rhythms with a western symphony orchestra.
The Virgin Records recording artist has often been in the news currently, given the unrest and bloodshed in his native land of Syria. As the violence continues, Jandali and his music have become a voice of protest in a land crippled by corruption and censorship.
THE STORY
The music video for “Freedom” tells the story of a composer (Jandali) being hunted by faceless soldiers for spreading his knowledge of music to children in a world where music is banned and illegal. The story loosely mirrors a real life situation in which Malek Jandali’s own parents were dragged from their home in Syria and severely beaten by pro-government assailants. The violent act was meant to send a message to Malek and all who speak out against the Syrian government. However, like the video, it only helped in galvanizing a revolution – a revolution that can be passed on through music.
PRODUCTION OVERVIEW
The production was shot in Cave Spring, Georgia, at the historic William S. Simmons Plantation. Built in the late 1840’s, the plantation home served as a great location for the video because of the aged interiors. The original hand-painted interior walls conveyed the video’s look and feel. The location also rests on a large plot of land, allowing for many diverse scenes and giving the crew plenty of creativity and room to film.
NOTES
Perhaps the most complex music video for FUGO Studios to date, the company’s visual effects department handled a plethora of spectacular special effects shots in which Malek Jandali plays a burning piano. These shots were no small feat; involving building an entire 3D model of the antique square piano, complex tracking, and plenty of rendering time. The composited shots add a level of climax, making the music video feel more like a short film.
Everyone is very pleased with how this video turned out and FUGO Studios is proud to give Malek Jandali a quality piece to accompany such an important cause.

Blinded
Fresh off their win last year at the 48 Hour Film Project, FUGO Studios entered the contest once again with their intense international suspense/thriller; Blinded.
The Blinded short film takes us back to 2003 during the U.S. Invasion of Iraq and deals with the administrations controversial search for “WMD’s”. Most people ask themselves: Why were they never found? This film asks the question: What if they weren’t found because we were looking in the wrong place?
With a superb cast and incredible acting by Clayton Landey and Danny Kamran, Blinded was a hit at the screening and racked up Best Cinematography and Best Editing awards for 2011.

The Phantom Draw
After the success of FUGO’s 48 Hour Film Project entry, Pray, we decided to take on the 48HR Film Project’s GO GREEN competition. The same rules apply, (each team receives a prop, character, and line of dialogue and must make a movie in 48 hours), but this time each film must carry an environmental theme.
FUGO Studios decided to take an different approach to the theme by telling the story of a man who is so concerned with the “big picture” environment and the nameless people who destroy it, that he forgets to take care of himself and ends up neglecting “his environment”. The film portrays an ironic twist on the notion that if everyone took care of their own environment, we would all benefit.
With the release of the Phantom Draw, FUGO Studios continued their 48 Hour Film Project success with numerous awards including a top 3 finalist finish worldwide. The film also went on to screen at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France.
Pray
Pray is FUGO Studio’s first entry into the 48HR Film project, a growing phenomenon where teams are given a prop, character and line of dialogue with which they must write, shoot and edit into a film in only 48hrs.
Open to the challenge, FUGO came out of the gate with the suspense/thriller Pray. The film is about a Hasidic jeweler and his quest to find the person responsible for violently robbing him.
Pray did quite well at the 48HR Film Project screening in Atlanta, garnering numerous awards including Best Atlanta Film.
